IP stands for Ingress Protection. The IEC IP protection class is an important criterion for the safety protection of electrical equipment. The degree of protection is often expressed in IP followed by two digits, and the number is used to define the level of protection.

The first number indicates the range of equipment dust resistance, or the extent to which people are protected from harm in a sealed environment. I stands for the level of preventing the entry of solid foreign bodies, the highest level is 6;

The second number indicates the degree of waterproofing of the device. P stands for the level of preventing water ingress. The highest level is 8.

7 Protection against short-term flooding When the cabinet is immersed in water for a short time under standard pressure, there should not be any water that can cause damage.

8 Protection against long-term water immersion Can be immersed in water under specific conditions. It should not cause damage.

Note: The diameter of the detector should not pass through the hole of the cabinet

0 No protection

1 Anti-drip type I Vertical drop of water without harmful effects

5 Spray-proof type Directly affected by water injection in any direction without harmful effects

6 Water-resistant type Water sprayed directly in any direction will not enter the interior

7 Immersion type will not enter the interior even if immersed in water under specified conditions

8 Underwater type can be used even if it is immersed in a certain pressure for a long time.

9 Moisture proof type can still be used when the relative humidity is more than 90% humidity.

The IP level of the international industrial standard and the JIS level of the Japanese industry standard are close to each other. The level is 0 to 9 and the IP level also specifies the dust prevention. IPxx dustproof and waterproof rating

Waterproof rating (second X indicates)

0 : No protection

1 : Drops of water dripping into the shell have no effect

2 : When the housing is tilted to 15 degrees, water droplets drip into the housing without affecting

3 : Water or rain has no effect on the shell from the 60 degree corner

4: Liquid spilled from the shell into the shell without harm

5 : Flush with water without any damage

6 : Can be used in cabin environment

7 : Can be flooded for a short time (1m)

8 : prolonged flooding under certain pressure

Example: There is a scale or display meter labeled IP65, indicating that the product can completely prevent dust from entering and flushing with water without any harm.

The IPXX class specifies the waterproofing test.
