IP seal class (1)---Representation method

Representation method

The IP (INGRESS PROTECTION) degree of protection system was drafted by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Communications) and classifies electrical appliances according to their dust and moisture resistance characteristics. The IP protection class consists of two figures. The first figure indicates the level of protection against dust and foreign objects intrusion. (The external objects mentioned here contain tools, and human fingers cannot touch the live parts of the appliance.) In order to avoid electric shock, the second number indicates the degree of confinement of the appliance against moisture and water ingress, and the higher the number, the higher the degree of protection.

The degree of protection is often expressed in IP followed by two digits, and the number is used to define the level of protection.

The first figure indicates the range of equipment dust resistance, or the extent to which people are protected from damage in a sealed environment. Represents the level of preventing the entry of solid foreign bodies, the highest level is 6;

The second figure shows the degree of waterproofing of the equipment. Represents the level of preventing flooding, the highest level is 8.

The first digital dust protection level after IP

0

No protection

No special protection for outside people or things

1

Prevents intrusion of foreign objects with a diameter greater than 50mm

Prevents the human body (such as the palm) from touching the parts inside the appliance due to accidents, preventing the intrusion of foreign objects of larger size (diameter greater than 50mm)

2

Prevents intrusion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 12.5mm

Prevents human fingers from coming into contact with parts inside the appliance to prevent intrusion of foreign objects of medium size (>12.5mm in diameter)

3

Prevent the penetration of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 2.5mm

Prevents intrusion of tools, wires, and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5 mm into contact with parts inside the appliance

4

Prevents intrusion of foreign objects with a diameter greater than 1.0mm

Prevents intrusion of tools, wires, and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0 mm into contact with parts inside the appliance

5

Prevent foreign objects and dust

Completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects, although not completely prevent the intrusion of dust, but the amount of dust intrusion will not affect the normal operation of electrical appliances

6

Prevent foreign objects and dust

Completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects and dust

Second digit after IP: waterproof rating

0

No protection

No special protection against water or moisture

1

Prevents the dripping of water

Dropped drops of water (condensed water, for example) will not cause damage to the appliance

2

When tilted 15 degrees, it can still prevent the water droplets from immersing

When the appliance is tilted up to 15 degrees vertically, drip will not cause damage to the appliance

3

Prevent the intrusion of sprayed water

Prevents rain or water from intruding into appliances with a vertical angle less than 60 degrees to cause damage

4

Prevention of splashing water ingress

Prevents splashing water in all directions from entering the appliance and causing damage

5

Prevents the intrusion of jetted water

Prevent water spray for at least 3 minutes

6

Prevent big waves from immersing

Prevent water spray for at least 3 minutes

7

Prevent water from immersing in water

Immersion effect of 30 minutes in water up to 1 meter deep

8

To prevent the intrusion of water when sunk

In the depth of more than 1 meter of water to prevent continuous immersion effects. The exact conditions are specified by the manufacturer for each device.
