Germany has launched a new type of ID card, which contains an RFID chip that can read the information stored in the ID card chip such as name, address, and photos through an ID card reader. When shopping online or working with government departments online, users can do it with a mouse at home. However, many residents do not feel bad about this. According to statistics, about two-thirds of German residents do not have these new features. Therefore, the German government hopes to strengthen the use of new functions.

Upon receiving an identity card, each resident will be informed of the electronic functions of the ID card, and they will also be able to receive a promotional brochure detailing their functions. However, many residents still have not used new features. Now the German government plans to promote the electronic functions of ID cards.

On November 1, 2010, Germany launched a new type of ID card. The new ID has some electronic additional features. It contains an RFID chip that can read the information stored in the ID chip, such as name, address, photos, etc., through an ID card reader. When shopping online or working with government departments online, users can do it with a mouse at home. However, many residents do not feel bad about this. According to statistics, about two-thirds of German residents do not have these new features. Therefore, the German government hopes to strengthen the use of new functions.

The government stated that digital management is to facilitate residents. However, in practice, many government departments did not open electronic identity checks, and many businesses did not provide this service because many residents do not use these functions. Therefore, the German government plans that in the future, the identification of electronic identities should automatically start, mainly for general use. If you do not want to enable electronic functions, you must expressly refuse.

Strengthen cyber security against theft

The government also stated that it is necessary to simplify the process of using this function when dealing with government agencies and enterprises, and to ensure the security of data, which will be encrypted when transmitted. In addition, corresponding security zones are also set for additional functions. Online retailers can only retrieve business-related information, such as whether the customer has reached the legal age. Photo or fingerprint information is only allowed to be read by government agencies using special equipment.

However, people using computers at home to use this feature need to purchase a special card reader, the price is generally 20 euros to more than 100 euros. If the security of the user's computer or dedicated card reader is insufficient, cybercriminals can steal the cardholder's PIN.
